I am so so so so so stinking excited to be sending out this blog post! This is the first year that I have not been working 90 hour weeks in public accounting for the first 3-4 months of the year. It took me a bit longer than I had hoped, but I finally have round 1 of my favorite photographs from 2015! This round is my favorite portraits work only and consists of Senior, Family, Newborn, Maternity and Headshots! Tomorrow I will be releasing part II which will consist of Engagements and Friday will be part III, Weddings!
It was so much fun reminiscing back through each and every 2015 session. So many awesome memories came to mind, but I think two stood out to me particularly that might be of some interest to you:
Some of the most unique photos you will see below are ballet photos in the middle of the Little Pigeon River. This senior session started at 8:00 in the morning on a brisk fall day and didn’t end until 5 p.m. I’m sure you’re probably saying to yourself- holy cow that is a LONG time to be shooting senior portraits… but it was just so fun, I couldn’t stop shooting. It was amazing. I wore some flip flops that enabled me to just get into the water (as freezing as it was), while the ballerina stood on rocks. The current of the water was pretty strong that day and I didn’t realize that I had left my phone in my jacket pocket. At some point along the way, my phone jumped out of my pocket and into the water without me realizing it. Obviously that alone would make this session so memorable, but that is not why I like to tell this story. After completing the session and getting back to the car I realized that I had lost it. I walked back down to the river, searched around and it was nowhere to be found. Usually this would be super stressful for me. This is how I communicate with all of my clients and to add to it, my husband was out of town for the next couple days. But we had just completed an AMAZING, absolutely STUNNING senior session and not even the catastrophe of losing my phone in the water could dampen my mood. That is how much I love to take pictures. That is why I love telling this story!
The second most awesome memory is kind of funny that I’m referring to it as an awesome memory; it should be relabeled as a completely embarrassing and slightly gross memory. During one of the newborn sessions that I was taking for some first-time parents, I was swaddling the baby. I have watched so many videos on how best to swaddle the baby when you’re not using a velcro swaddles. The parents weren’t super comfortable with swaddling yet, so they peaked over my shoulder to watch. Just as they’re doing so, sweet little newborn peed right in my lap. It was kind of hilarious and I played it off to mom and dad like, “oh.. yeah.. this totally happens all the time, totally not a big deal…” when in reality that was the first time I’ve been peed on in my life! Now I know that if mom and dad are reading this blog post I hope they are laughing so hard because honestly, it was just innate reaction to play it off cool when really I was like, “oh my gosh… this really happens” in my head! Who knew getting peed on would make me put on my cool face and play it off like it happens all the time.
I could seriously go through a bajillion other stories that these images trigger when I look at them, but I’m pretty sure you’re already sick of reading and ready to scroll. So scroll on and when you get to the bottom, I would SO appreciate if you let me know what you think in the comment section slash follow me on my social media accounts that I will have links to below!
