In order to make this session happen, we had to meet up at 8 am in Corbin, KY. This groom surprised his bride with tickets to her favorite band’s concert in Nashville, TN that day and they were driving over as soon as we finished. Plus, the best lighting is either 1-2 hours before sunset or 1-2 hours after sunrise. So PJ drove in the night before from GA, I drove up the morning of from Knoxville, and we got the most perfect lighting we could have possibly gotten during our time at Cumberland Falls.
So a little background as to the locations that they chose because as you scroll you notice they’re pretty unique! First, the couple met at a church that meets in the Corbin movie theater. This is also the place that PJ proposed to Haley. So naturally, this is a great spot to document engagement photos. They know the guy who owns the movie theater, so we got behind the scenes treatment when the doors were unlocked at 8 am for us, the popcorn machine was turned on, and the theater itself had its’ doors open! If you know anything about these two, you know they are super fun and always competitive… so when the arcade was lit up, it was also an obvious spot to compliment their personalities.
After the theater, we headed to Cumberland Falls. None of us had been here in years, so after some roaming around on the roads a little bit, we finally found it, and it was the most perfect sunlight I’ve EVER gotten from a morning shoot. Not to mention, the beach setting lent itself perfectly for the outfits they wore.
Finally, we ended on the football field and basketball court on the campus of University of the Cumberlands, where these two really root deep into their history. I think that some of the reasons they love each other most, comes from their athletic background. Being an athlete, especially college athlete, you have certain personality traits that come with that, and for them, they literally fit like a glove. It was so much fun seeing them in their element doing their thing with their sport.
I can’t say enough how much I LOVE when my couples make their engagement sessions totally their own. I LOVE when I get to shoot new places that let my creativity run wild. I’m so thankful for these two and SO excited to finally be getting to share their engagement photos with them!
